Downtown’s not the only hood where things are bustling. Looking north toward La Jolla and beyond, Illumina’s making headlines for its move into a slick new i3 campus, with three buildings on seven acres, a gym, and a restaurant called Salt + Air. ViaSat recently extended its reach across El Camino Real in Carlsbad. BioLegend is spreading out across Sorrento Mesa with a campus expansion that includes a 70-foot-tall atrium, a gym, and an event space. And Alexandria Real Estate Equities continues to expand its footprint with bio and technology companies, landing Amazon as a major tenant in its Campus Pointe complex, which also includes Brian Malarkey’s Green Acre restaurant.
