Prof. Liangfang Zhang received his Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana- Champaign (UIUC) in 2006, was a postdoctoral associate at MIT during 2006-2008, and holds B.E. and M.S. degrees in Chemical Engineering from Tsinghua University in China. He is currently a professor in the Department of Nanoengineering at UC San Diego.

His research group in the Nanomaterials and Nanomedicine Laboratory aims to create cutting-edge biomimetic nanotechnologies and exploit them to study and solve complex biological problems that are associated with human diseases. One major research goal is to overcome the various therapeutic barriers in the treatment of cancer and antibiotic-resistant bacterial infection. Overall, the group seeks to understand the fundamental sciences at the interface of nanomedicine and biology.
