Good Bugs vs Bad Bugs: new breakthroughs in microbiome technology

Recent scientific advances have highlighted the importance of the MICROBIOME to human health and disease. The MICROBIOME is the collection of micro-organisms on your skin and in your body. Good Bugs against Bad Bugs – Skin Diseases like Eczema arrive when the BALANCE goes awry. This natural rebalance of the skin is a dramatic improvement over antibacterial therapy that kill not only pathogenic bacteria, but also destroys the normal skin flora by friendly fire.

The program will start with the broader subject of the Microbiome (and AI) with Dr. Rob Knight, a world leader in the study of the Microbiome. Dr. Knight is a professor at the University of California, San Diego and the co-founder of the American Gut Project. He is also a co-founder of the Earth Microbiome Project. His lab’s research involves the development of laboratory and computational techniques to characterize the microbiomes of humans, animals, and the environment.

The discussion continues to the specific Skin Microbiome with Dr. Richard Gallo who studies how humans interact with the environment and protect themselves from infection. Dr. Gallo M.D., Ph.D. is Professor and founding Chairman of Dermatology at the University of California, San Diego and Chief of Dermatology at the VA San Diego Healthcare System. His research accomplishments as a physician-scientist include discovery of antimicrobial peptides in mammalian skin and establishing new links between innate immunity and skin diseases such as atopic dermatitis and rosacea.

Finally, Mark Wilson, Co-founder and CEO of MatriSys Bioscience, Inc. will speak to how he obtained an exclusive license from UCSD for a microbiome-based therapy for the world’s top five skin diseases and uses the technology to open up opportunities to the $12.9B dermatology pharmaceutical market and the $121B cosmetics/skin care market.
