ABOUT THE PRESENTER

Robert Okabe made his first startup investment in 1995 and has invested in fifteen startup companies.  He helped lead the first large angel network in Chicago, was a co-manager of an angel investor fund, and has helped form two other investor networks. Bob supports startup investing and entrepreneurship globally and has spoken on the topic across the United States and in Saudi Arabia, Mexico, Turkey, Canada, and Morocco.

Professionally Mr. Okabe has been a Managing Director of RPX Group LLC since 2002 where he leads the firm’s efforts to commercialize innovative technologies.  RPX Group’s clients include universities, national laboratories, three S&P 500 companies and a Fortune 100 Global firm. He was an investment banker for twelve years at Robertson Stephens, Lehman Brothers and Kidder, Peabody & Co.  Mr. Okabe began his business career spending nearly six years in financial management at General Electric.  After leaving GE, he was a senior bond analyst for Moody’s Investors Service for two years. Bob is currently an Executive-in-Residence at the Polsky Center for Innovation at the University of Chicago.  He was previously adjunct faculty at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and has lectured at the University of Chicago Booth School and the Kellogg School at Northwestern University.
