Local Biotech Venture Capital Update

Calibr’s ReFRAME Library is Featured on STAT News

With more than 12,000 drug candidates, Calibr’s ReFRAME library is one of the largest collections of its kind.  Researchers are hoping to accelerate drug discovery by mining the library of small-molecule drugs that have either been approved by the FDA or tested in clinical trials.  Researchers have already found a semi-effective leprosy drug could fight a parasite that is the leading killer of children in the developing world.  That drug is now in clinical trials in Malawi.  Read more and watch the video at STAT News.

 

Luna DNA Begins Offering Stock for Personal Genomic and Health Data

Luna DNA was founded on a simple notion: have people who donate their genomic and health also benefit from the research that is done on their information.  Xconomy reports that under the SEC exemption Regulation A, the SEC okayed LunaDNA’s offering of $50 million worth of its shares in exchange for data.  LunaDNA currently accepts data from other genomic tests, such as 23andMe and Ancestry.com, and plans to expand to other data types

 

Pfizer to Relocate 100 Jobs from South San Francisco to San Diego

San Diego Business Journal reports that Pfizer is moving 100 jobs from South San Francisco to its research and development campus in La Jolla.  The site up north will be closing, and the employees are expected to begin the transition to San Diego after the New Year.  The researchers in San Diego will be focused on oncology and developing new immunotherapies.
