Downtown Buzz: Beer, Gas on Demand, and More Cool Companies

This week’s business and tech news from around downtown

Uber for Gasoline?

According to Bloomberg, San Diego—in addition to Atlanta, Nashville, Los Angeles, and parts of the Bay Area—is one of the markets being served by Purple, a company offering gasoline fill-ups as a delivery service. As a disruption in the sale of gasoline and the infrastructure required to do it, it hasn’t come without complications for the few companies that have headed down this path. The fire marshals in Los Angeles and the Bay Area have expressed concern about the safety of the delivery service and the state regulatory agency has a meeting scheduled in May to discuss this kind of fuel delivery.

Culture of Transparency

San Diego’s Zeeto Media is part of an article at Talent Management looking at the success of creating a culture of transparency. Zeeto’s Chief Revenue Officer Shayne Caldwell discusses how being transparent can affect an employee’s perspective about staying with a company.

The Case for Downtown

Kris Michell, President and CEO of the San Diego Downtown Partnership, and Mary Walshok, UCSD Vice Chancellor for Public Programs and Dean of the UCSD Extension, put pen to paper to make the case for an innovation partnership with downtown San Diego. Highlighting new data collected by the UCSD Extension, the two argued, “The reason Downtown is able to start as well as attract innovation companies and the talent needed to grow them is because it offers the urban experiences and types of social connections so many young people are seeking.”
